TRAFFIC RULES IN MONACO

It would be a shame if you were fined while in Monaco.  Check out our tips on how to enjoy the F1 race in Monte Carlo without spending extra.

General Rules

Driving Side
Vehicles drive on the right-hand side of the road.

Speed Limits

  • Urban areas: 50 km/h (31 mph)
  • Residential zones: 30 km/h (19 mph)
  • Non-urban roads: 90 km/h (56 mph)
  • Specific speed limits may be indicated by road signs.

Seat Belts
are Mandatory for all passengers. Children under 10 years old must be seated in the back and use appropriate child safety seats.

Alcohol Limits
The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.05% for general drivers and 0.02% for bus and coach drivers.

Traffic Signals and Signs

Traffic Lights
Follow standard red, yellow, and green signals. Yellow signals mean to prepare to stop unless it is unsafe to do so.

Stop Sign
Complete stop required, then proceed when safe.

Yield Signs
Give way to traffic on the main road.
